Gesang Flowers
Having spiced up their eyebrows and lips
They come out together from the white tent
Winking at passersby
Or raising their eyebrows
These little devilish fairies all over the fields
Will soon become my brides
戒
隔着一堵墙
寺院的高音喇叭
每天都会准时
念一会经
听多了
我都开始吃素
Abstinence
With a wall between us
The loudspeaker from the temple
On the same hour every day
Would utter a round of chanting
Having heard it so often
Even I begin to live vegetarian
位 置
火车上
跑了几趟
茅坑总被占着
有人等了一路
有人憋了一辈子
到死
也找不到位置
Place
On the train
Several attempts are made
Only to find the toilet pit is always occupied
Some people have waited all the way
And some have held it all their lives
Even till death
They fail to find the place
Mother
Dealing with firewood
All her life
She ends up sending herself into a furnace
Bellows snap
The last breath
And its mind that could not be left behind
Is spit bit by bit out of the chimney
Tattoo
Your name is tattooed on the back
And carved on the chest, the root hair that runs rampant
Crawls over every part of the body
With a slight puff of breeze, your shadow
Would grow out of the pores
Returning home
Standing under the pagoda tree
I shout at the top of my voice for a while
Childhood then creeps out from a stack of wheat hay
With a plop
Jumps into the flood pool by the village
Scaring frogs into croaking
Solitude
Having served beside saddles and behind horses
And on the go for most of my life
My organs are old and feeble
Now all alone in a corner
I open up a patch of land
Sow some words
Water and fertilize them
And watch them slowly grow into a poem
Xi'an
The city wall is like a string of Buddha beads
Hanging on the neck of the bell tower
The sun occasionally sticks out its fingers
To shift the beads, and each chant
Brings a dynasty
Out of the low doorway
The terra cotta warriors in armor
Stand still for thousands of years
Autumn
Fallen leaves remind people again and again
All words that have nothing to do with life
Must be given up
Autumn wind will hollow out all decorations
Leaving nothing but a pallor
To the sky
The setting sun with a trace of care
Breathes
Its last breath
Migrant Workers
Their beads of sweat are reserved seeds
The workers usually scatter on the edge of cities
To grow scenes of feasting and revelry
Crammed in damp bunkrooms
Migrant Workers
Are drinking the northwest wind
With preserved vegetables
And biting their homeland into
A tattered moon
Late Autumn
Rubbed by the rain
The past fades
Even the most beautiful dream
Can't rival a whole night's autumn wind
Loneliness is like a little pet dog
Hiding in a photo album
Licking
Its old scars and new wounds
Cold Dew
The moment pomegranates grin from ear to ear
Maple leaves blush half the hillside
The autumn wind eats up the chirping of birds
Perching on twigs, one bite after another
Cold dew blinking its eyes
Peeps on
Mist betrays itself
Under the probe of sunshine
A Mountain Village
A call
Grows out of the cooking smoke
Horse hooves wind up a path of late return
That if there is no moon
Fireflies will seek
Holding up their lanterns
All over mountains and fields
Maple Leaves
Like a butterfly
Spreading its frightened wings at dusk
Taking off from the cover of an old magazine
And alighting on her head
Like a bow of yarn
Fastened by a slender braid
Moonlights are feathers shaken off
Strew and pave the dream of early autumn
A Shadow Puppet *
Cut out of cowhide
Is cow’s stubborn temperament
Wandering about the streets and alleys
A shoulder pole carries
Sorrows and happiness
The past childhood memories
Under a few fingers
Reveal their true shapes
Autumn Rain
It keeps raining like this
The village huddles up
Squatting halfway on the hillside
A narrow opening between doors
Snaps a path stretching into afar
The kitchen smoke branches off
And ferret out from dusk
A heap of memories
Maple Leaves
Like an urgent document stamped all over
With official seals*
Being passed along the hidden mountain paths
One level down to the next
Not a word revealed
To each and every tree
In one night
All hills and dales are blazing red
