So that the imperceptible little creatures

Disturbs the tranquility of the afternoon
A pondful of lotus leaves
Fail to lift up a shower at dusk
A mosquito lying on the edge of the ear
For half a day
Does not hum a word
Carrying a heavy destiny
Cramming onto the single-log bridge of life
They watch for every step
Latent with unpredictable dangers
In the distance
Sunlight gives out an illusory mirage
Old parents
Squeeze a handful of cold sweat
With a burning heart
like mercury in a thermometer
Heaved to the throat
After nighfall
White-haired Mother
Like a glowworm
Flies and hovers in a patch of cropland
As if she wore a miner's lamp
And crawled out of darkness

Sunlight has pierced the veil of dawn
Magpies have festooned a string of crowing atop trees
Gentle breeze
Having rolled up its pant legs
Has penetrated the woods
Soaking the newly-put cloth shoes
Sunflowers rub their eyes
Despite several attempts
And fail to raise their heavy heads

Kong Yejing (meaning void and peace), whose original name was Wei Yanlie, a military poet, is currently a member of Qinghai Writer's Association.
